Welcome Letter from the Organizing Committee

Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Members of the International Sport Psychology Community,

It is with great pleasure and pride that, on behalf of the Portuguese Society of Sport Psychology (SPPD), I welcome you to the I ISSP International Conference, to be held in Porto, Portugal, from 5 to 9 July 2027.

Hosting this conference represents a significant milestone for sport and exercise psychology in Portugal. It reflects the continued growth of our field, the increasing relevance of psychological knowledge in sport, exercise, health, and performance settings, and the strength of collaboration between national and international communities committed to scientific excellence and applied impact.

Under the theme “Health, Performance and Social Well-Being in Sport and Exercise Psychology,” this conference aims to create a dynamic forum for dialogue, innovation, and exchange. We hope to bring together researchers, practitioners, students, coaches, health professionals, and decision-makers from around the world to share knowledge, challenge ideas, and shape the future of our discipline.

Portugal has history and a growing tradition in sport and exercise psychology, supported by talented professionals, emerging researchers, and strong institutional partnerships. We are therefore especially honoured to welcome the International Society of Sport Psychology and the global community to our country for this important event.

Porto, one of Europe’s most vibrant and welcoming cities, offers an inspiring setting for scientific discussion and professional networking. Its rich cultural heritage, strong academic environment, and unique social atmosphere make it an ideal host city for an international conference of this scale.

We sincerely hope that your participation in Porto 2027 will be scientifically enriching, professionally valuable, and personally memorable.

We look forward to welcoming you to Portugal.

With warm regards,

Pedro Teques

President

Portuguese Society of Sport Psychology (SPPD)

Welcome Letter from the President of ISSP

Dear colleagues, distinguished guests, and friends,

It is both a privilege and a great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference of the International Society of Sport Psychology, hosted in the vibrant and historic city of Porto (Portugal).

The conference theme, Health, Performance, and Social Well-Being in Sport and Exercise Psychology, reflects both the breadth and the direction of our field. It underscores the recognition that performance cannot be understood in isolation from health, and that both are deeply embedded within social, cultural, and organizational contexts. Bringing these themes together offers an important platform to explore how, as a global community, we can advance knowledge and practice in ways that are integrated, responsible, and impactful.

Bringing together researchers, practitioners, educators, and students from across the world, this conference reflects the truly international scope and collaborative spirit that define ISSP. It provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen our shared commitment to advancing knowledge, informing practice, and addressing the complex challenges that shape performance, health, and well-being across diverse contexts.

Sport, exercise, and performance psychology has evolved considerably over time, expanding beyond its traditional boundaries to engage with a broader range of performance domains, interdisciplinary collaborations, and increasingly complex systems of practice. The scientific program reflects this evolution, offering opportunities to engage with current research, innovative applied approaches, and critical discussions that contribute to the continued development of our field. Across symposia, workshops, and presentations, participants will encounter work that addresses not only how to enhance performance, but also how to support mental health, promote sustainable practice, and foster environments that enable individuals and communities to thrive.

At its core, this conference is not only about the dissemination of knowledge, but also about meaningful exchange. The diversity of perspectives represented here, across cultures, regions, and professional roles, creates a rich environment for dialogue, reflection, and collaboration. These interactions are essential for fostering a field that is both scientifically rigorous and responsive to the realities of practice in different parts of the world.

Hosting this conference in Porto provides an inspiring setting for such engagement. Known for its rich cultural heritage, architectural character, and dynamic atmosphere, Porto offers a unique environment in which scholarly exchange and professional connection can flourish. The city’s blend of tradition and innovation mirrors the trajectory of our field, grounded in established knowledge while continuously adapting to new questions and emerging challenges.

This gathering also reflects ISSP’s ongoing commitment to supporting an inclusive and globally connected community. As the field continues to grow, it becomes increasingly important to create spaces that are accessible, representative, and open to a wide range of perspectives. In this regard, the conference serves as an important opportunity to strengthen connections, encourage dialogue, and support the continued development of sport and exercise psychology worldwide.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the local organizing committee, the local and international scientific committees, and all those who have contributed, and continue to contribute, their time and expertise to the development of this conference. Their efforts have been instrumental in shaping a program that reflects both the depth and breadth of our field.

I hope you find the conference engaging and rewarding, and that it offers many opportunities for meaningful exchange and connection.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Porto in July 2027!!
